Glass Blowing 1: Beginners

AUD $850.00
  • Duration: 2 Days (approx.)
  • Location: Kingston, ACT

Spend your weekend on the Hotshop floor and learn the basics of glass blowing, taught by Rob Schwartz or Nadina Geary.

What to expect
Spend two days with a professional glassblower on the Hotshop floor in this workshop in discovering the basics of glassblowing in a safe environment. In Glass Blowing 1, participants will learn to blow and shape molten glass to create simple objects such as baubles, paperweights, free-form sculptures, and vessels

What to bring
Please bring a water bottle and your enthusiasm! This class has a break for lunch, you may bring your own or purchase lunch locally. It gets hot in the hotshop, we recommend you wear light layers for this course. To participate in this class you must wear fully closed shoes, clothing in natural fabrics (denim, wool, cotton, linen), and have long hair pulled back. You must wear your prescription glasses over contact lenses. All materials and safety equipment for this class will be provided.

What you will make
A whole range of objects! This class introduces making a cup, a bowl, a bauble and how to work in a team in the hotshop. Most participants walk away with a few different objects depending on the size and complexity of what they make. Unfortunately, when beginning to learn how to work with glass there can be breakages during the annealing process, and we cannot promise that everything made will be safe for you to take home.

Your works made in glass will be available to collect 48hrs after the workshop is complete during our opening hours Wednesday to Sunday 10am to 4pm from the Gallery Shop.

If you are unable to collect your work, please add postage when you book and provide your address and postage details through the booking form or email our team at lilith.silva@canberraglassworks.com
