Create a matching spoon and bowl set in this wood carving & glass blowing class, taught by Fiona Glover and a skilled Glassblower.

What to expect

In this engaging multi-medium workshop participants will spend a day learning the basics of wood carving and experience how to carve a wooden spoon. Throughout the day participants will also each have a turn to go into the Hotshop to experience a one-on-one session with an expert glassblower where they will be carefully guided through the process of making a unique glass bowl. 

What to bring
Please bring a water bottle and your enthusiasm! This class has a break for lunch, you may bring your own or purchase lunch locally. To participate in this workshop you must wear fully closed shoes, clothing in natural fabrics (denim, wool, cotton, linen), and have long hair pulled back. You must wear your prescription glasses over contact lenses. All materials and safety equipment for this class will be provided. 

What you will make 
A hand carved spoon, wood care kit and a unique coloured bowl! You can take your spoon home on the day, but your work made in glass will be available to collect 48hrs after the workshop is complete during our opening hours Wednesday to Sunday 10am to 4pm from the Gallery Shop.

Fiona Glover has a lifelong interest in woodcraft and design, and was drawn to spoon carving due to its gentle and meditative process. She initially learnt traditional techniques in greenwood carving and has since developed her practice to also work with seasoned hardwoods that are either recycled, or offcuts from furniture making that would otherwise go to waste. 

Nadina Geary graduated with Honours in 2017 from the ANU School of Art Glass Workshop. She has assisted Karen Lamonte, Mike Parr and worked on the 2018 Australian of the Year Awards. Nadina received the 2016 Corning Museum of Glass Summer Studio Scholarship to learn hot sculpting with Karen Willenbrink and Jasen Johnson, and casting with Carole Milne. Nadina has woked as a teacher in the arts for over 10 years and currently works as a teaching artist and in production at the Canberra Glassworks, sharing her passion for glass.
