  • Duration: 180 Minutes (approx.)
  • Location: Kingston, ACT

Discover the art of sandcasting with hot glass! Immerse yourself in the process as you create unique molds in sand through impressing various objects, intricately carving out designs, and engaging in imaginative experimentation. Taught by Nadina Geary and Olivia Gates.

What to expect
This class is an introduction to Sandcasting, watch the process unfold as you make molds in sand by impressing objects, carving out designs and experimentation. After you have created your impressions in the sand, watch as our teaching artists pour in molten glass to create your sculptural work in glass in front of your eyes.

What to bring?
Please bring a water bottle and your enthusiasm! To participate in this workshop you must wear fully covered, flat shoes, clothing in natural fabrics (denim, wool, cotton, linen), and have long hair pulled back. This is important for your safety in the hotshop. You must wear your prescription glasses over contact lenses. All materials and safety equipment for this class will be provided.

What will you make?
You will create a range of sand cast works, in this workshop you will be taken through the process of sandcasting and each participant will get their own tray to craft molds for pouring hot glass into. You could create an impression of your favorite object, your hand, draw a design with powdered coloured glass or create simple abstract objects, then watch as your teaching artists pour in hot molten glass straight from the furnace to create your sculpture in front of your eyes. Please note that sandcasting finely detailed objects is difficult to achieve - please get in touch if you have any questions.

If you are unable to collect your work the week after your class takes place, please add postage when you book and provide your address and postage details through the booking form or email our team at lilith.silva@canberraglassworks.com
