Fusing Depth and Light with Kirstie Rea

AUD $750.00
  • Duration: 450 Minutes (approx.)
  • Location: Kingston, ACT

Join established glass artist Kirstie Rea for an immersive workshop exploring the creative and technical possibilities of fusing thick glass. Over the course of three consecutive Monday evenings, participants will design and construct solid glass slabs (approx 100 x 150 mm and 40 mm thick) using Bullseye glass, powders and stringers.

Through guided experimentation, you’ll explore how depth, colour and transparency interact when glass is layered and fused in thick form. Kirstie will share insights from her decades of practice in kilnforming, encouraging both technical curiosity and personal expression.

Participants will learn:

  • How to plan and construct thick fused glass works
  • Layering techniques to create depth, colour and texture
  • Firing schedules for thick glass forms
  • How to use Bullseye materials including frit, stringers and powders effectively
  • Finishing and coldworking considerations for thick slabs

This course is ideal for beginners or those with previous fusing experience who want to deepen their understanding of glass behaviour, colour relationships and process refinement.
