Little Bits and Wraps: Continuing Glassblowing, Session 1

Take your glassblowing skills to the next level by exploring the art of attachments and details. In this hands-on class, you’ll learn how to create and apply bits, wraps, and handles to enhance your forms and bring greater expression to your work. Perfect for those wanting to refine technique and develop precision in the Hotshop.

What to bring

• Please bring a water bottle and your enthusiasm.
• This class has a break for lunch, you may bring your own or purchase lunch locally
• It gets hot in the hotshop, we recommend you wear light layers for this course.
• You must wear fully closed shoes, natural fabric clothing, preferably non-synthetics, long hair pulled back.
• You must wear your prescription glasses over contact lenses.

All materials and safety equipment for this class will be provided.

Your works made in glass will be available to collect 48 hours after the workshop is complete during our opening hours, Wednesday to Sunday 10 am to 4 pm from the Glassworks Shop. If you are unable to collect your work, please add postage when you book and provide your address and postage details through the booking form or email our team at bookings@canberraglassworks.com

Robert Schwartz is an American glass artist currently working out of the Canberra Glassworks as a glass blowing instructor and production artist. He received his Master of Visual Arts (Advanced) degree from the School of Art and Design, Australian National University and his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Glass and Visual Communications from Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana.

Prerequisites

To enrol in any Continuing Glassblowing class, participants must have completed Intro to Glassblowing (previously Glassblowing 1: Beginners) within the past 12 months. If you have prior glassblowing experience gained elsewhere and can demonstrate equivalent skills, you’re also welcome to join.

If it’s been more than 12 months since you completed the introductory class, you can book a four-hour private refresher session to brush up on your foundational techniques and regain confidence in the Hotshop before joining the new Continuing Glassblowing series.

These classes build directly on the skills and methods introduced in the introductory course.
