Transform old glass into new cut and polished glassware, taught by Lisa Cahill.

Lisa Cahill is an internationally recognised kiln-formed glass artist whose sculptures, installations, and public artworks have been exhibited worldwide. Since graduating from Monash University in 2000, she has developed a 25-year career as an independent studio artist, with studios in Melbourne, Sydney, and now Canberra. Her work is held in public collections across Australia, the USA, Denmark, and France, and she has received numerous grants, residencies, and award nominations, including the Ranamok, Tom Malone, and Hindmarsh Glass Prizes. Cahill has also completed commissions for leading luxury brands including Tiffany & Co., Nobu Hotel, and Vacheron Constantin.

What to expect

Transform discarded wine and beer bottles into beautiful, functional drinking glasses while learning professional cold-working techniques. This hands-on workshop introduces participants to the creative possibilities of recycled glass. Students will explore sustainable making practices while learning how to safely cut, grind and polish glass using specialised studio equipment.

What to bring

This class can work with glass you already own! As it is a course to rework and recycle glass, we provide some options for you but warmly encourage you bring something in from home you hope to reimagine. This class has a break for lunch; you may bring your own or purchase lunch locally. You must wear fully closed shoes, natural fabric clothing, preferably non-synthetics, long hair pulled back. You must wear your prescription glasses over contact lenses. All materials and safety equipment for this class will be provided.

What you will make

Each participant will create two finished tumblers or small vessels from reclaimed bottles, giving new life to materials that would otherwise end up in landfill.
